You Already Know: The science of mastering your intuition by Laura Huang (2025)

My take:

Do you ever get that “gut feeling” that says, “don’t do this” or “do that”. Sometimes it screams at you, sometimes it is just a whisper. In You Already Know, Huang reviews the science of our gut feel and how to refine it so that our decisions are better informed and lead to more positive outcomes.

Huang makes a distinction between intuition and gut feel. She states, “intuition is the process that leads to a final moment of recognition that we call our gut feel”; the process (i.e., intuition) and outcome (i.e., gut feel) are distinct.

Our gut feel has the power to help us solve problems and help with our decision-making; to act like a compass. Huang offers several exercises to help you tap into your gut feel and sharpen it so that it becomes an essential tool in your decision-making.

This book is about getting to know yourself better and tapping into your experiences and feelings to produce better outcomes for you. In making decisions or behaving in a way that is more tuned into yourself, you may find that you experience more positive outcomes including improved well-being. I appreciated the prompts Huang offered on how to do more listening which in turn can help us refine our gut feel.

Huang also emphasizes that gut feel is not without its’ data, in fact, data plays a significant role in informing and shaping gut feel through the intuiting process.

P.S. I loved Huang’s suggestion to read broadly and to make note of excerpts that resonate with you as another way to help develop your gut feel.

Have you tried any exercises in the book? Do you find yourself relying on your gut feel more often? Has gut feel impacted your relationships? Has gut feel impacted your well-being?
